Printer Setup

If you haven't ordered the Brother QL-820NWB Label Printer, go ahead and do that first. You can utilize Visitu without printing badges, but badges makes it an overall more enjoyable sign in experience for your visitors.

Step 1: Unbox Printer and Setup

  1. Unbox your printer. The Brother instruction book is useful for reference, but you shouldn't need it if you follow these steps.
  2. Lock in the printer’s preinstalled coin cell battery.
    • Make sure the printer is turned off.
    • Open the cover, and remove the insulation seal from the coin cell battery. 
    • Ensure the coin cell battery cover is in the lock position. If not, use a coin or similar object to adjust the cover into the locked position.
      • Note: The battery should always be inserted (-) side down. 
  3. Assemble and insert the roll of badges into the printer.
  4. Plug the black power cord into the printer and a power socket.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the printer. Make sure the green status light comes on.
  6. Use the [▲], [▼] and [OK] buttons to set your language, the time and date as prompted.
  7. If you’re not already on the main screen, navigate there now using [↩] button. 

Step 2: Configure Bluetooth

This step can be skipped if you're going to print using WiFi.

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Bluetooth > Bluetooth (On/Off) > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  3. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Bluetooth > Automatic Reconnection > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  4. Press the [↩] button to return to the main screen. You should see the Bluetooth icon in the top right.

On the iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. Under Devices, look for Brother QL-820NWBxxxx, like “Brother QL-820NWB5678.”
  4. Select the QL-820 Device listed to pair it with the iPad

Step 3: Configure WiFi

This step can be skipped if you're going to print using Bluetooth.

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN (On/Off) > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  3. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > Infra Manual Setting in the settings menu. Press [OK].
    • Your printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Remember, your printer and iPad will be on the same network.
  4. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select your desired network. Press OK.
  5. Provide your password.
    • Look in the top right of the screen. Press [Menu] to switch between uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
    • Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select the correct characters.
  6. If it connects, it will say “Connected!” Press [OK].
    • If it does not connect, repeat steps 9 through 11.
  7. Press the [↩] button to return to the main screen. You should see the Wi-Fi icon in the top right.

Step 4: Find IP Address

This step can be skipped if you're going to print using Bluetooth.

  1. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN Status > Infrastructure Mode in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  2. Beside IP Addr, you’ll see see the IP address. It will be a series of numbers separated by periods (for example: 192.168.1.44 or 10.0.1.23).
